On the Streets #1 : The art of the handoff
The handoff report is one of the most significant factors in effective patient care for patients who arrive at the hospital with EMS. For EMS providers, it is important to understand how to convey the patient’s medical history, reason for transport, and other pertinent information to emergency room staff in a timely manner. This course will provide an overview of a high-quality handoff report and offer approaches to avoid common mistakes made when giving a report. The target audience of this course is primarily paramedics and EMTs, but also useful for emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. All of these medical professionals are routinely involved with EMS patients and their care will benefit from the educational content of this course.
